Working together with IE Nonprofits to Advance Vibrant Health

Our grants advance IEHP Foundation’s mission to inspire and ignite the health of the Inland Empire. As a place-based funder in the  Inland Empire, we are committed to supporting programs, organizations and people who are working to ensure Vibrant Health is accessible to all in our region.

We proactively partner with nonprofit organizations in San Bernardino and Riverside counties and only accept proposals in response to open Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

IEHP Foundation is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for our Champions for Vibrant Health Leadership Network! This two-year leadership development program could provide up to $150,000 in general operating support funds for Inland Empire community-based organizations that address the social determinants of health.    

  • Initial application due Monday, July 15, 2024    
  • Invitations to final round applications August 30, 2024

Program & Grant Information:  The overall goal of the Champions for Vibrant Health Leadership Network is to develop an engaged network of emerging and established nonprofit organization leaders committed to helping build Vibrant Health across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties through partnership, collective advocacy and organizational capacity building. 

Upon selection for the Leadership Network: 

  • Organizations with an annual operating budget under $1M will receive up to $50,000 over two years 
  • Organizations with an annual operating budget over $1M will receive up to $150,000 over two years. 

 

The program also includes leadership training for the organization’s top executive and an identified emerging leader, as well as opportunities to join together in collective advocacy to increase health equity across our region. 

 Eligibility requirements include:   

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered and/or has a significant presence in San Bernadino and/or Riverside counties.    
  • Annual budget of at least $250,000 and have been operating for at least three years.   
  • Provide direct services and/or engage in advocacy efforts focused on at least one of the following Vital Conditions for Health and Wellbeing.  For more information about Vital Conditions, click here.   
    • Basic Needs for Health & Safety   
    • Humane Housing   
    • Meaningful Work & Wealth   
    • Lifelong Learning   
  • Organizations should primarily serve Inland Empire families with children (18 years and younger) from one or more of the following priority populations:   
    • Low-income households and/or those living in poverty   
    • Communities of Color   
    • Communities that are remote or rural    
    • Communities furthest from health equity, including cities with a Healthy Places Index (HPI) score lower than the 25th percentile. For more information about HPI, click here.   
  • Executive and emerging leadership staff have worked with the organization for at least one year and intend to engage in leadership development activities throughout the two-year program.   
  • Have a 2024 Candid Guidestar Seal of Transparency rating of either gold or platinum.   
  • Fiscally sponsored organizations are not eligible to apply.   

 

Information Sessions: We will hold two optional virtual information sessions to provide an overview of IEHP Foundation, the RFP process and how to manage the grant portal system.    

Grants will be disbursed in two equal payments in December 2024 and December 2025, with the second payment contingent upon the organization’s performance and engagement in the first year of the grant cycle.   

 Key Dates and Deadlines: All interested organizations must complete the LOI application (Letter of Interest) by Friday, July 12 at 5 pm Selected organizations will then be invited to submit a final application.    

  • Virtual Information Sessions: June 21, 2024 (10 am – 11 am) and June 27, 2024 (3 pm – 4 pm)   
  • Applications due: Monday, July, 15, 2024, at 5 pm     
  • Invitations to final round applications: August 30, 2024    
  • Final Round Application due: October 4, 2024 (5 pm)   
  • Interviews and site visits scheduled, as needed: October 7 – November 15, 2024   
  • Awards will be announced: December 2, 2024

Due to the overwhelming response of eligible and completed submissions, we had to close the application early for the Collaborative Capacity Building Grant. The applications were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 30 eligible organizations that submitted a completed application.

Capacity Building Training offered in partnership with Caravanserai Project

Throughout IEHP Foundation community listening sessions, nonprofit leaders shared their concerns and need for more general operating funding and staff/leadership training to enhance infrastructure and foster better relationships with county and other funding partners. 

The Collaborative Capacity Building Grant aims to strengthen business operations and help organizations better serve their communities. To receive the grant award, the selected nonprofit’s leader must complete a 10-week educational course led by our partner, Caravanserai Project, to enhance nonprofit leaders’ business management skills and empower their organization to scale and expand their services.  

After the selected organization’s leader completes the program, IEHP Foundation will award a $5,000 grant for building up infrastructure such as professional services, software, equipment and other general operating and non-programmatic expenses. 

Key Dates and Deadlines  

  • February 20: Application Opens – Grants will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis.  
  • March 20: Application Closes – Application could close early due to the number of eligible applications.

Building upon our initial opportunity for San Bernardino nonprofits, we are pleased to open this opportunity specifically for Riverside County nonprofits. 

The Collaborative Capacity Building Grant aims to strengthen business operations and help small organizations better serve their communities in Riverside County. To receive the grant award, the selected nonprofit’s leader must complete a 10-course educational course led by our partner, Caravanserai Project, to enhance nonprofit leaders’ business management skills and empower their organization to scale and expand their services.   

Caravanserai Project is generously providing its training services in-kind through the use of various previously secured funding sources. 

After the selected organization’s leader completes the program, IEHP Foundation will award a $5,000 grant for building up infrastructure such as professional services, software, equipment and other general operating and non-programmatic expenses.  

Eligibility and Criteria  

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit or community-based organization (CBO). 
  • Must have an annual operating budget of $500,000 or less.  
  • The organization’s leader (CEO, President, Executive Director, etc.) must complete the 10-course educational program.   
  • Open only to organizations operating in communities in Riverside County.  

Key Dates and Deadlines  

  • May 7: Application Opens – Grants will be awarded on a first come, first served basis and application will close based on number of responses.    
  • June 4 – July 11: Grantees attend Caravanserai Project’s 10-course educational project. 
  • July – August 2024: Grants are awarded.
